I have both and they are both good but very different. In general I prefer gas and find it easier to control the heat, but the induction is nearly 100% efficient (as in watts in = heat in the pot with nearly 0% loss of energy). The induction will bring a small pot of water to a rolling boil in like 60 seconds, a large pot in under 4mins. It'll get so hot I can sear beef for stew in like 3 seconds.

Boiling, braising, keeping warm are best on induction. Pan frying, sauteeing, etc are best on gas.

Mine was $35 and it's fucking awesome! Only thing that cheesed me about it was the loud beeps every time you press a button and a bunch of other random times, so I took it apart and pulled the piezo beeper out and wala, silent!

I honestly recommend these all the time, I used it about 50% of the time even when I had a gas stove

I have an induction cooker and it's the bees tits. I've always been a staunch gasman, but induction has been welcomed into my home with open arms and will be with me forever. I've never seared meat even close to this effectively with gas, not to mention mirepoix. Boils a saucepan of water in like 60 seconds.

Only thing you might want to consider is how low it goes. On the lowest setting I fear it wouldn't be low enough for rice, but I've never tried.

I've always been a gasman but agree that duction is so underrated. i bought mine a couple years back out of necessity and now that I have a gas stove I still use induction more often, it just gets so much hotter and is so much easier to control, and also you don't have to worry about any oil or wine/sherry fires
