It's not healthy, but if you can make it work it's the lesser of a lot of evils. I couldn't do it, though. I'd either drink 30 light beers or I'd give up after a few and go get some malt liquor.

For some people drinking is running a marathon; for me it's the 100-yard dash. Once I get a little bit of alcohol in me, I feel an irresistible compulsion to drink a lot very fast until smashed. It wasn't that way in my first few years of drinking, but it has been for the last twenty. So I could never make any harm reduction work.

As for your waiting to stop, I guess you've decided alcohol is adding something worthwhile to your life. Nothing wrong with that, if it's true. Those first few years of drinking were awfully sweet for me, so if you're still getting that I can understand why you would want to salvage it rather than cut it out entirely.
