depends on where they lived. my grandparents on my moms side are yankees but lived in miami so they would eat weird shit like cow tongue, among the usual wypipo bland shit like frozen peas, mashed potatoes, broiled chicken etc. by the time i came around they started eating "healthy" so whenever i went over there it was the same bland shit they fed my mom plus stuff like spinach lasagna with no meat, microwaved pasta sauce so theres no oil in cooking it etc. my grandfather always did make bitchin grilled wings though ill give him that.

my dads family was from the south so they ate typical southern food, which isnt' bland. fried pork chops with rice and gravy, collards, mac and cheese, bbq etc.

when i was growing up our house was a combination of both, which kind of sucked bc i hated canned peas and corn and my mom made mashed potatoes lumpy and used a fucking hand blender so it made them weird and starchy instead of creamy. i started cooking for myself mostly when i was like 11 and they were never home to make dinner so thankfully that was that and ive learned from their mistakes on what good food is and whats bland honky bullshit. im also dating a yugo and their food is fucking great.

i think were at a crossroads now though with some younger people just eating fucking garbage fast food and stuff like that and the kind of hipstery home chefs.

i bought a jug of the powder just to see what the fuss was about. first off it tastes like it looks, like industrial filler powder.

while it does give you the calories you need etc., it doesnt fill you up whatsoever, so even after youve had your however many calorie drink youre still hungry.

i skipped breakfast like i usually do, i just have a tall black coffee in the morning since i dont even really get hungry until several hours after i wake up anyways if i went to bed sober.

around 12 or 1 i had a giant glass of soylent, which kept me satiated for about 30 minutes.

by 4 oclock i had a food headache and was starving and ordered a pubsub

its totally a meme. there is no fucking way all these people are using this as a meal replacement and arent totally starving until their next meal. a folie a deux if you will.

wtf? almost every person i know has the most bland and lame diet, even people with money. i always go for the "scrap" cuts that i can turn into something great and blow peoples minds. ive literally never heard anyone say anything remotely like what youre saying with the exception of my dad who doesnt like dark meat chicken but not because its cheap but because hes a boomer tastelet and cooks everything into charcoal.
