What Brits have to understand is that American "Tinned" beans are HEAVY on sugar. The Amerilard palate has become fucked with high fructose corn syrup.
The original intent for this was that so there would be a measure of carmelization when they are heated properly to temp, or baked on an oven like the old Boston baked beans(a TRULY different flavor.)
Now, with most Amerifats heating most everything in a microwave, for only a minute or two, it turns out more like beans in a tomato syrup.
An analogous for would be how Brits just can't understand why Yanks would eat beef or onion gravy on cookies--We don't do that, but that's what "Biscuits and Gravy" means to them.
As a quick, comfort food, if more 'Murricans had access to British style beans, It could become as popular as Mac 'n' Cheese.
