Its a calorically dense additive that doesn't satiate and increases hunger, but its not, "directly responsible", as that would imply some direct mechanism of influencing weight metabolism. People just dont feel satisfied and eat more as a result. Even then shitty oils are basically the same thing and more likely in "literally everything" and far more calorically dense
