I'd say that if you don't go while completely baked out of your mind then you're going to experience a pretty bland dining experience with little to no authenticity but the people.
At least go tripping on something or whatever, and see what you can get out of a mind-altering experience at one of the nation's highest rated restaurants and buy the most expensive item, along with the cheapest item.
Report back with what you thought about the servers, the people around you, the atmosphere, and the food, I guess...

Are you into it? If not, fuck it. Stick with simple shit like combining spices and sauces to easily microwavable things like pasta and rice in a bag until you have a good idea what you like. Then start from there.

>get dirty looks from both of them, we sit in such a way across the store that they face as and we face them
>eat with a giant smile
