that's part the issue, real wages have essentially stagnated since 1970 for 90% of people, and especially the service class. That being said, it's not like "mom and pop" places can afford to pay 20 an hour like Walmart or Target. Even then those places are still usually shit. It's not just about the money, though that is a large part of it. It's a rot.

Not working for Walmart doesn't explain why the average American still throws trash on the street, is obese, and is illiterate past the middle school level. The majority of this country cannot read an airline flight schedule - I'm not joking.

Something has happened to us as a society, lowering of standards everywhere, decay.
