To add to what this anon said, it's also because we explicitly bred dogs in a controlled manner to be both companions and tools, and work aids/ livestock guardians/ whatever. Pigs and cows and such were bred to be food livestock, and we desired greater amounts of meat from them.

For a cheap drink, Cranberry-Pomegranate juice with Crown Russe is pretty good. Dirt cheap and can't taste the Russe as much.
