How to make proper rice balls? It seems to hold together fine, but it kind of falls apart and becomes a mess once I actually start eating it. More salt? Less salt? Slow cooling? Fast cooling? Or what?

I have about half a pound of sushi rice, and I was curious about making onigiri. Is it worth it, or a cheaper version of sushi?

Any recommendations on what to fill it with? Should I pressure cook the rice, boil it, etc?

Anyone have suggestions on what to put in my riceball?
Also how does the seaweed taste? Is there a good replacement for it if i find it shitty?

it's good because sense it's not real sushi it keeps well and is decent for a fast grab and go snack anytime.
Rice and seaweed is a pretty tasty snack just on it's own.
A lot of Californians fell for the 'sushi is fancy and expensive meme' when really in japan a lot of places serve it fast and cheap, almost like fast food.
So when your choice is between a California roll served by that cutey highschooler vs having to dress up and pay $15+ for each small bite fish being served by dressed up japanese men with frowns on their faces, for fish that is not as good as street bar places in japan, you get an emotional connection with the California roll.
Don't get me wrong, there is fancy sushi that is worth it, but 90% of the pricey places in California are serving the same blah fish as everywhere else from the wholesaler.

I use chunky peanut butter as a filling for onigiri.

How can Japanese people eat this shit. It's the most bland fucking thing I've ever eaten. Better yet how do they eat a bowl of white rice with every meal. That shit has no fucking taste. Don't even get me started on fucking anko. They put this shit in every fucking desert for the love of god why. It's so grainy and sweet and gross. The only delicious thing I've been able to eat here is fish and other types of meat. Everything else has been so fucking disgusting. Any suggestions on what I can eat here that doesn't taste like ass?
