He actually makes a point of saying he's not a chef. Which is reasonable.
But he also calls himself an average and everyman cook. Which is not.

The simple fact is that he's incompetent because he refuses to listen to any critique and has therefore managed to have a "cooking" channel for over a decade without ever getting even a little bit better at cooking.
He has a sign in his kitchen that says "Your opinion is not in the recipe" and that really sums him up nicely.
