Use high heat and some wine.
Wine's natural sugars, once the liquid has evaporated off, will hasten the process. I can cook browned onions in 10-15 minutes and caramelised ones in 20-30.

Alternately, just buy a jar of caramelised onions. If you pitiably live in a country where caramelised onions aren't a jarred food, then just use the high-heat-and-a-little-wine method. Works a treat.

Source: come from a heavily caramelised-onion-eating culture so we had to come up with ways to hasten the process. We eat that shit near daily. We put it on pasta as a sauce. Pic related: a pot of home-caramelised onions with herb-celery leaves about to be put on pasta.

ikr?
This was made with like 3kg/6½lbs of onions cooking down to about a litre/quart of sauce. That's herb celery on top, by the way.
