I usually go for Tennents, Guinness and Amstel. Tennents in particular gets a lot of shit. Pic related is my favourite beer, beer snobs would probably disapprove but it's very crisp and malty.

Don't tend to drink a lot of ale but I'm partial to a pint of Scapa Special or the odd IPA and blond beer.
