Is there any way to enhance my pasta without using sauces?

I'm pretty tired of sauces doing all the work in terms of flavour in my pasta dishes so I'm looking for any way I can make the pasta itself taste better. That way the whole dish including sauce is improved. Anything other than to just salt the pasta water?

>he puts salt in the pasta water because he thinks it adds to the taste
>he doesn't put a lid over it to quicken the boiling because he thinks the temperature going up will overcook his pasta and he still wants to catch salmonella from the eggs since he prefers eating hard pasta like Italian mudmen
>he tips gunky, scummy pasta water into the sauce 'for thickening'

Italian mudmen polluted pasta and every time I see someone making it like this I want to spit in the pot.
