Let's not pretend they don't try hard to shill their shit the AHA. The AHA just has to have some justification for their recommendations, and most evidence, as the international community of healthcare and nutrition scientists agree, supports unsaturated over saturated fats, including seed oils, even if they aren't ideal foods.

Sounds like OP is referring to a Caldwell Esselstyn style low fat plant-based diet

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1520-037X.2001.00538.x/pdf

He's one of the doctors who influenced President Clinton's diet after his surgery and helped to treat his heart disease. He was also in the documentary Forks Over Knives. Samuel L. Jackson recently started following that kind of diet too

While most health authorities tend to agree with his message and he has had convincing success in treating patients with that diet, it may be unrealistic to expect most people to change their diets so dramatically, especially Americans, and especially when most peoples' basic understanding of food and nutrition is pretty poor. Everybody has their own opinion on what's healthy and what isn't and it's based on what that individual person personally enjoys eating. Progress can't be made this way

>Nutritionist still recommend we get 30% of our calories from lipids.

Not as a necessity though, but more like an upper limit. We know diets with calories even less than 10% fat are preferred.

It might help if the people in charge of educating the public about nutrition gave evidence-based suggestions rather than trying to give half-useful data that doesn't step on the toes of certain industries.

Then again, the people eating cheetos for lunch and bacon/eggs for breakfast probably aren't interested in following health guidelines. To plenty of people, there's nothing you could say to make them want to eat healthier. What's more important is the 5 minutes of happiness they get from eating a bowl of microwaved cheese.

I don't know why people think the American public ever collectively decided to follow dietary guidelines. If anything though, the guidelines promote too much fat.
