>Nose: Burned chicken in gravy, wood smoke, overheating electronics, marmite and malt out of the bottle, upon first uncorking. Hints of anise and candy-apple subsequently appear. In the glass, the apple and burning electrical equipment dominate, with new notes of hospital disinfectant and wood glue.
>Taste: Wood smoke, creamy caramel, oak, burned chicken without gravy, a hint of peach, citrus, malt and apple. Almost no burn going down at all.
>Finish: More smoke, tobacco, and wood glue.
>Verdict: My favorite scotch and favorite alcoholic drink of any kind. I was expecting Laphroaig 10 to be a peat-dominant, savory, malty scotch before trying it, but in fact it is a whole trifecta, straddling all of the three major flavor profile categories of scotch - it manages to have wonderful rich confectionery and fruit notes, better than those found in most other whiskies I've had, in addition to all the peated flavors. My dream scotch would be a dry, earthy dram like Dewar's White Label but with much more complexity, strength and smoke in it, and whilst this did not end up fitting that bill, it is an absolutely excellent whisky.
