Tabasco sauce. I have an extensive hot sauce/condiment collection and they all have their special place and application. But Tabasco is the only thing I keep on the table with the salt and pepper. It spruces up almost everything.

Tabasco general discussion.

I've noticed this pepper sauce gets alot of hate here. I'm here to explain it for you. Tabasco is not a sauce like for instance Frank's, Sriracha, or Cholula. You don't want to be dipping your chicken strips and pizza crusts into it. I acknowledge the deliciousness and importance of regular hot sauces and love many sauces. Tabasco is different.

Tabasco is no sauce, but a liquid seasoning. The proper way to use it is the same as how you'd use crushed black pepper, salt, or any other common seasoning. The point in Tabasco is not to make your food taste like Tabasco. The point is to use it in smallish amounts like a seasoning to enhance whatever you are adding it to. Imagine it like a liquid black pepper. You don't want to completely bury your dinner in black pepper but a little bit is nice on almost everything and makes almost everything taste a little bit better and more complete, but doesn't get in the way of the actual flavors of the food. Tabasco is the same thing. If you dip chicken strips or pizza into a straight up bowl of Tabasco its going to taste like vinegar and shit. But if you can show some restraint and use just a dash or a few in whatever you're eating it's going to taste better than what it was to begin with. It amplifies and enhances inherent flavors.

Does this make sense, you Tabasco loving and hating faggots? It is not to be used as a "sauce". It is a flavor enhancer and a seasoning. Why else do you usually only see salt, pepper, and Tabasco on tables at restaurants? Tabasco is the spicy tangy compliment to regular salt and pepper.

No, shitty sauce is shitty. Sweet chemical garlic tasting bullshit that ruins everything.

Step aside, peasants. I give you this.

Dis shit right here. I've had better sauces but they were all $15 "craft sauces" if you will, and mostly local or hard to find. Hardly in the same category.

I'm able to eat spicy foods most of the time. I once took a heaping dip of salsa on tortilla chips and my god was it hot, It had me sweating and gave me an upset stomach for about an hour, Another time I did a shot of Tabasco and a bit of tequila, a little spicy but I've had worse, The thing is after about 10 minutes I had to run to the toilet and I fucking ruined it.

How does spicy food work?

>grow up using Tabasco
>used to think it was too hot, used it anyways
>got very used to the "heat"
>moved to college, starting exploring different tastes
>decide Tabasco and other mainstream sauces are for peasants
>start exclusively buying obscure hot sauces and super-hot pepper extracts
>douse all my food in these gourmet sauces, can't even taste food
>use so much pepper extract that I have no taste buds
>I think I'm badass and have good tastes
>get into cooking, start actually paying attention to the flavors of food
>don't use overpowering sauces so much, lay off the extracts
>cook food that tastes good and spicy without gourmet hot sauce
>push all sauces to the back of the fridge, forgotten
>all except one
>keep my Tabasco on the table
>use it on bland foods instead of salt, it enhances flavor without overpowering anything
>it consistently and subtly makes things taste slightly better
>MFW I've gone full circle

how does /ck/ feel about regular tabasco sauce? just curious.

now me, i collect hot sauces, i have about 30 on hand right now and each have their own use. from the most common the the most local and obscure, i've got it covered and i love them all.

tabasco, though. to me, its like the budwieser of hot sauce. its not the best, its plain, but you can get it anywhere and it is consistently palatable.

just wondering what you guys think about it. imo it is one of the greatest "mainstream" hot sauces, because of its ability to enhance flavor and add saltiness to foods without using MSG or a ton of salt. the flavor is mild enough not to overpower the food, yet unique enough that it stands out in comparison to similar louisianna style sauces.

what do you think? is tabasco really a quality sauce? do people only buy it because of brand recognition? can you honestly deny that it is a liquid, more flavorful version of salt?

what say ye?
