To cut a long story short, we never found out what she used to make the meatballs, but I'd wager even plant based mince has an expiry date.
We discovered from friend that she used store bought sauce and added heaps of sugar to mask the taste of not meat for some reason? I always thought the meat free alternatives made a point that they were "just like real meat". She added generous heapings of seaweed (muh umami cope) and apparently MSG and boulion cubes. Making it probably more unhealthy than a regular pasta with meatballs without all the sugar and shit in it.
Friend eventually broke up with her as she began to dictate that he was not to hang with us and became a proper vegan food nazi about everything he ate.
Fatbro made amends with vegan gf friend and has lost about 50lbs since this incident, to his immense credit.
We all still hang and do frequent cookouts and other semi boomer tier meals and we will never not have meat, no homo.
