op wants must try foods not "simple food that's good for you". I would eat pelmeni as my last meal but that's mostly because of personal nostalgia. eastern european can be boring as fuck.

I make pelmeni often, they're perfect for a quick meal when you have a bunch frozen.

you should check out CookingInRussia's books for his youtube channel. There's some interesting stuff about the history of food in Russia in his books.

There's very little difference between the meat filled dough variations of eastern europe. Pic related is pork/beef russian pelmeni I make often. I tried putting Dill in them this time, do not recommend.

I also make pierogies like yours OP, I just use different cheeses and butter in the filling. When I cook them, I like to brown them in a pan with butter after boiling.
