DESU, I use this pic related. It works fine. If you are worried about your yeast as a possible issue, I can almost guarantee that it isn't. The most important step is mixing, IMHO, and if you aren't mixing carefully, your dough is going to be shit anyway. I'd start with better flour (strong/bread flour) and better mixing technique before looking elsewhere to improve your bake.

I have been using this as my commercial yeast. It comes in a big pack. I store it in a jar in the fridge. Much more cost effective and less wasteful than little housewife packs.

I buy pic related in bulk. I keep it in a glass jar in the fridge. Basic recipe is this:
>2 Tbsp yeast into 1 or 2 c warm water (dep on flour amount) with 2-3 Tbsp sugar. Dissolve and let rest 5 min.
>2 tsp NON-iodized salt
>2 Tbsp oil or salt
>4-6 cups flour
>mix, knead until: smooth and NOT sticky anymore. When ready (10-15 min of kneading), it will be smooth, not sticky, and will bounce back if poked slightly
>let rise until doubled
>put into pans or shape into loaves
>let rise until doubled
>bake at 375-425, depending on type of flour (AP flour 375, rye and whole wheat 425).

Don't be a chump - get a proper bread knife. Sourdough next post.

Bakers of /ck/, have you used pic related, and what was your experience? I bought a shitton for 4 bucks. Store it in a mason in the fridge?

Also, general bread thread. I could use a few tips on sourdough starter. I have used a lot of recipes with little success - I usually end up with a watery mess.
