The entire business becomes catered to these people. Feed them free food, table service for their drinks. Milk them. Treat them better than other customers, so people know if they want that service they need to plonk themselves down in front of the pokies and start gambling. It's built not just to enable gamblers, but create new ones. And then you watch these hopelessly hopeful cunts sit there just tapping away, pouring their money into these fucking things.

I don't have sympathy for them, but I do think the systems that prey upon them are a cancer to be excised.
