I normally stay out of these threads, but I just wanted to pop in to say your inferiority complex is astounding.

Having lived in both cities, and a number of others across the nation, I can say with some authority that the Chicago food scene is a bad joke. Unless you're going to the handful of $300pp restaurants that you reflexively recite when you feel your municipal pride threatened, Chicagoans who want to dine out are mostly reduced to eating greasy sports bar garbage accompanied with, if you're lucky, a regionally brewed beer. Your best shot at an Asian cultural epicenter on Argyle Street is the equivalent to a few Asian-influenced blocks in the immediate vicinity of an out of place Asian grocery store in the no-name regions of Long Island or North Jersey.

Your Mexican food is about the only thing that's not a complete joke and if you subtract Rick Bayless then you basically have what any large city full of not-so-well-off migrant Mexicans would have, namely a bunch of unimpressive taquerias of the kind you'd find in Minneapolis, Kansas City, or Indianapolis, except in larger numbers. The pathetic "urban taco" shops you've recently started to set up on the North Side only add insult to injury.

Your once-vibrant European immigrant neighborhoods are as likely to survive the next decade as the Atlantic bluefin tuna, and all that's left to talk about is a wet beef sandwich that sounds like an humorous synonym for rape, and the tomato dish that Scalia correctly described in his speech.

Have some tums. You're probably very familiar with them if you have to eat out in Chicago much.
