Inspired by a post in another thread.

Why do Americans say “bring me...” in restaurants? Or the other one I often hear with American friends “I want...”?

Seriously, it’s fucking excruciatingly rude. When friends say “bring me” especially, my blood just curdles with cringe. Why can’t you just politely say “please may I have...”, or “I would like..”? Also, why don’t you thank the wait staff when you hand back the menu? Most of my American friends just shove the menu back as though the waiter/waitress doesn’t even exist. Also when the food comes - just stare at the plate when it’s put down as though looking for something to complain about - no “thank you”, nothing.

I love you guys but you embarrass me when we go out to eat, seriously.
