that's because it's absolutely true. I'm not in software myself, but have you ever tried to get a job that wasn't handed to you by mommy or daddy? It's fucking impossible. I ended up having to join the navy reserves and even then I needed a ton of references and security shit and had to wave around robotics and school club "leadership" shit to get enlisted

even getting into school in the first place, they require you already be very familiar with the content, even at the lowest levels. wanna go into an engineering program? your math and science aren't good enough, better have some robotics comp awards or an indie sandbox game or something under your belt. Wanna get a machining certificate? better have a driver's license and a portfolio of machines or sculptures you've made. wanna go to culinary arts school? better have a rosette or two or you're not getting in. art school or 3dcg? better have a portfolio and have worked on some animated movies or games by now when you're fucking 17 and applying for community college
