I could never accept that, I feel like there would be some undue pressure to continue going there together, and it also sets an expectation that everytime I come with my gf or by myself I should 'get' something. I'm talking from the owners perspective now, having managed high quality restaurants myself. The only time I've given something nice for free is maybe a small mixed drink on an anniversary or birthday or an intermezzo between courses. Desserts never being free on birthdays, of course. I feel like giving things for free to regulars is just uncomfortable and unnecessary to all involved. I don't have an obligation to give them something for free just because they give me their business, and they don't have an obligation to keep coming to my restaurant.

I've only seen this at Safeway and sometimes Walmart but it's damn tasty and usually on sale
