I tried to talk my mom out of shopping at walmart but she just looked at me like pic related and said "but anon, their eggs are $1.29 per dozen."

Technically she is correct. Wal mart has lower prices.

I tried to talk my sister out of shopping at whole foods, but she just looked at me like pic related and said "but anon, they sell gluten free margarita mix"

Technically she is also correct.

OP, I agree with you though that Publix is the objectively correct place to shop for the staples of everyday living.

Just keep an open mind to those other places too. Walmart will be cheaper a lot of times because they are the great satan of logistics and putting mom and pop shops out of business. They are clearly very good at something. And keep whole foods, trader joes, and fresh market in mind as well. Their quality of product is far superior in some cases and they prices aren't as bad as people say - given the increase in quality.
