Canned deenz are expensive as fuck where I live but I can sometimes get a kilo of whole frozen ones for a couple euros. I like to fry them or cut them up and feed them to the cats. You can eat heads and guts and all one these small fish.

My brother works on oil rigs.
He used to work on one where almost everybody would do some fishing during their time off but they didn't want the mackerels. So he took them, gutted them, and put them in the big freezer they kept out there for the purpose and then brought them back for me. I ate so many fucking macs back then.
The rig he's on now doesn't have any fishers :(

I get sprats and deenz for my cats when I can but I'm not very interested in eating them myself. Although I will on occasion

Lidl sometimes sells them frozen for very little money here.
I get them both for myself and for the cats. I usually gut them for myself and just toss them in flour and fry them.
The cats get them whole or roughly chopped into chunks, guts and all.
Deenz empty their bowels when they die so you can eat them with the guts just fine but I don't really feel that it makes them any better, so I just take the few extra seconds to clean them out.

more people here need to get in on the fresh deen racket. I like the canned ones, sure, but there's a world of difference.

Not OP, but if it's good price you should absolutely try some fresh deenz and fry them up. I toss them in flour. Not sure OP did that.

I got a really good deal on whole, and I mean WHOLE, frozen deenz at Lidl a while back. Bought all they had.
Canned ones are expensive as fuck where I live and I like my fish "fresh" better anyway.
I take out the guts but I eat the heads.

rolled in flour and panfried isn't bad either.

The tinned ones are expensive here but I get fresh or frozen ones whenever I can.
A delicious fish that you can gut and clean without a knife if need be.

First batch. I like them a lot.
Just tossed them in a mix of flour and vegeta and fried them. Ate everything but the head and it was all good.
