I miss my grandmother's matzo ball soup. She would make it for me every weekend. During her letter days before dementia went full throttle, she would sit next to me as I ate her soup and she would tell me her recipe. I didn't care about it and never really listened. Nowadays I only have matzo balls once a year, when my mom makes it out of a store-bought mix, and serves it in a veggie soup because of vegetarian family members.
I was so jaded by her decaying mind and her slow descend to madness and death that I really wasn't phased by her end. I still don't feel an emotional impact by her death. But remembering the matzo ball soup... I miss it. I regret not writing down her unprompted recipe ramblings.
