This. Most of the off-the-shelf-japanese curry boxes use palm oil or lard to serve as the stabilizing agent so the roux remains in those nice neat cubes. They'll also typically have a ton of salt included in them as well.

Couple that with the fact that japanese curry is typically served with rice you have a pretty hefty dish calories/fat/salt/carb wise.

Like look at this S&B nutrition facts here. each serving of the roux gives you nearly 20% of your daily sat fat values and 40% of your daily sodium and S&B is one of the nicer mass produced curries out there. Factor in the potatoes, the meat if you add it, and the rice and it's a damn loaded meal. Tasty sure, but it sure isn't healthy.
