Why do Vegans think that their diet is more ethical if the cells in a plant are still alive when you eat it (provided you eat the plant raw) whereas the cells in meat are dead?

Anyone ever eat raw vegetable without anything?
My parents are from Hungary and growing up we would eat sausage, or smoked meats with just raw vegetables on the side. I liked it so I started eating them, then my American friends and girlfriend look at me weird like im a fucking retard. No ranch no vinegar just veggies. Anyone else here do this or am I just a retard?
My fav veggies are:
Any lettuce, Radish, Cucumbers and spinach
