Overhydration can be bad for your kidneys but going by colour is a bit iffy for the layman. Very generally speaking you'll want to pee somewhere between 1 and 2 liters a day.

Generally speaking you'd be better off looking at how much you're pissing rather than how much you're drinking.
Today is a very hot day where I live. I could easily drink 3 liters of water through the day and only produce ½-1 liter of urine. That'd be alright, but a little on the iffy side. I'd consider a urinary output of 1 liter a minimum and I'd want more than that for my patients, unless they're specifically on a fluid restriction of course.
There are charts of urine colour you can also look up. They're only meant as guides but generally you don't want to be taking one very dark yellow piss on a hot Summer day like this. And you don't want to pee something that looks like water every 45 minutes either.
Here's a decent chart that some genius, possibly one of those US nurses, chose to print in monochrome.
