Slightly off topic, but I'm headed to a japanese grocery store today after work to get takoyaki sauce and a couple other things. Anyone have any recommendations for other things I need or recipes I should try while I'm there?

Me and a friend will be going to Japan for 3-4 days in January for a fighting game tournament and to explore and do fun touristy stuff.

What foods does /ck/ suggest we try? So far we have ramen, tonkatsu, takoyaki, dumplings, sake, getting a fresh fish from the market auction, and tempura. Any obscure local gems /ck/ can think of?

Is Takoyaki supposed to taste like UNCOOKED and SOFT pancake batter mixed with octopus and sauce?

or did the restaurant I first tried them in make them really uncooked and soft

they looked so delicious in anime...
