I've wanted to try it for a while considering the numbers that Wikipedia shows for that monastery's status on the trappist beer scale.

Cooking, and food in general, are two completely different things.
It's not a meme, it's just, more of a gastronomy thing.
If you put me in a room with 100 chefs, 99 in a healthy weight range and 1 in the overweight range, I'd trust the ability of the fat chef to know more about food than the other 99.
Unless one of those other chefs happened to have the money to travel the world with 40 years of XP on his belt, I'd be sure on the money.

I feel you bro. Same on just about every fucking level, except both sides of my family is lost in the first world and can't relate to anything outside of their own circle of attentions and I don't fucking talk to about 99% of them and could care less about doing so.
Mother eats out almost every day and cooks random bullshit concoctions like she's pregnant. I'm cooking meals I take massive amounts of pride in with massive amounts of effort given.
