look up the blog http://cocktailvirgin.blogspot.com/
its advanced but good stuff. The big thing to remember about getting into cocktails, is fresh citrus, lemons, and limes. And get a few tools, like an oxo jigger, and a cocktail kingdom shaker tin set. Having a few tools really makes the experience of making cocktails a lot of fun.

You should really try a good Daiquiri, its the easiest way to tell if a bartender is good, a recipe for home would be

2oz silver rum(Cruzan, Ron Cartavio,barcardi even)
1oz Lime Juice
.75oz simple syrup(half water half sugar)
and from there you modify to taste, if its too sweet or too sour

What the fuck is "real whiskey"
Bourbon is made of primarily corn. Rye is made of primarily Rye. And there are wheated whiskey, barley whiskey, rice whiskey, and probably more I dont know about.

All of them are made for a reason, because people love the taste. So dont be an asshole and imagine that somehow using malted barley like in Single malt Scotch is the only way to do it right.

Also have fun with your scotch and its added caramel coloring and reused bourbon cask finishes.

Elijiah Craig is the only major release bourbon I would put up against Four roses. Maybe Buffalo trace too, with eagle Rare and Stagg JR.
