Fuck what the other guys said, start with the shittiest brand. Beach cliff tier. Next move to Wild Planet and after that King Oscar and Riga Sprats. After that move to Spanish sardines like Matiz, and then go for the best: Portuguese. Nuri is probably the best you'll find in stores.
If you start with the worst you'll truly know what constitutes a quality sardine and can make an informed decision on what you like best. You don't even need to finish the tin of a shit brand, just eat one sardine if it's too much for you. I will add that Greek sardines are tremendous as well. This was the best advice I was given, and I will continue to give it to other anons starting their journey.
