I'm more confused about what's wrong with eating scones for breakfast. Isn't having a coffee and some kind of pastry/baked good for breakfast pretty fucking common everywhere in the Western world? Do they also think that it would be weird to eat a bagel, or a danish, or a croissant for breakfast?
