Meme as in mostly pretentious wankery and overused flavour of the week ingredients? Yes, in popular culture.
As in a waste of time? Not one bit.
As a living human, you will average 2-3 meals a day, every day till you drop dead.
Even if we look at it from the purely nutritional standpoint, the more balanced and suited your diet is to your needs, the better you can use your body.
Or the financial one; a cook cam utilise cheap ingredients to provide rather than rely on others, be that close ones or eating out.
Or the most important reason to learn to cook well; because life is far too short to spend it eating food that merely fuels you or is easy to throw down ones throat. A good meal can provide the essence of emotive response; from the unlocking of new flavours and textures to the expression of food on a plate, or the uplifting feeling of cooking and coming together with friends and family, enjoying time away from ones obligations and taking a moment to appreciate life.
