A P-38 is fine in an MRE but I'd hate having to use such a small one in the kitchen.
I have used something like pic related by whole life. Much larger and faster than a P-38. Not arthritis friendly, though.
Might send one to the Cobester one day just to see how he handles it.

I remember finding that video years ago and she only looked cute in that one frame :(

I use pic related. I believe that's the standard in my country, although I have seen ones like the one OP posted. I guess if you work in a restaurant and have to open 50 cans of tomatoes it's nice to have something mechanical but otherwise it just looks like something designed to break.

These are the standard where I live.
They will outlast the owner.
I can understand wanting something else if you work in a shitty restaurant and have to open 200 cans a day or something like that, though.

I use one of these.
I think they're pretty much the standard in my country.

I've always used one of these. Seems to be the standard here.

Slicing the jugular isn't really that big a deal. Just put a finger in it.
Do you have your arteries and veins confused, anon?

I've always used one of these.
Same type as the one you posted but doesn't fold.
It will outlast you and your hypothetical grandchildren.

Not a fan of those folding ones but I've always used can openers of that general design. They will last several generations.

This will outlast you and your children.
