The big paradox about American mentality is that with all the "you have to work harder sweatie" mindset, Americans can't be arsed to do the simplest tasks if it means slightest bit of hassle, and will immediately give up when faced with slightest difficulty. Most also hide this by saying "not my problem", "I am not poor so I'd rather spend extra on it" and "I work too much so I have no time". It seems that in reality, Americans are absurdly lazy and reliant on others' labor when it comes to food, to the point most seem to think basic cooking makes food taste "like at a restaurant", and make horror stories that you need to spend 3 hours on cooking on restaurant grade equipment to make anything tasting good.
Part of problem is also boomer cooking that taught people that hom cooking = well done steak with mashed potatoes or hamburger helper. Still, the problem is there, and likely it's going to get even worse because people would rather die than give up comfort, and zoomers are even more inept than their parents.
