Hi all, a few years ago me & my GF (now wife) had this dilemma. We were college athletes and it was 2 years after graduation. We had both put on about 40 lbs and were embarassed to go to a reunion with old friends who used to be on the heavy side because they knew us as the "fitness couple" and we used to make (innocent) jokes about their weight and they had all managed to get thin/fit since college.

Well the awkward dinner was enough motivation to get back on our old workout plans and we took off the slippers and put away the sweatpants for a solid year and were back pretty much to our college physiques.

But eventually we ended up agreeing that the amount of discipline and self deprivation that was involved wasn't worthwhile long term and it's not like we compete anymore

So fast forward to now 4 years after that first reunion and we just had another one. As we tell people who ask "we put on our sweatpants and slippers again" We're each about 100 lbs from our college weights now rather than 40 and everyone else from the group regained the weight as well. We're still bigger than them now, but dinner wasn't awkward like last time and we all stayed at the restaurant for hours this time.

I'm not saying we're proud of this. We'd love to be able to run the court like we did in college. But we could never enjoy a dozen Krispy Kremes while we were training and Haagen Dazs is the 8th wonder of the world. We know we're out of shape, but 1)we're enjoying ourselves and 2)there's delicious food everywhere on the street and in stores and unless you make yourself miserable it doesn't seem like you can stay skinny.

[Also, just a side comment. I know fat storage in different places affects your health differently. So before anyone suggests that our health is at risk, I have some belly fat but also a lot on my rear end. And my wife has belly fat too but the vast majority of it is on her butt/thighs, so in terms of placement I don't think it's necessarily terrible healthwise.]
