As someone who have worked in customer service for a while, I try not to. I also understand that it's a little frustrating when the customer tries to be super polite and ends up making a smaller problem bigger than necessary. I'm usually thankful for their work.

The last time I found myself doing this, I felt bad for causing trouble and tipped whatever amount I had on me. I don't think the server saw me, but whatevs.
