It's 100% the hot dog
Based on the European Wurst, is elevated into a piece of legendary Americana cuisine with the replacement of the traditional sausage with a processed, rubbery, industrially-produced cylinder made of questionable waste meats, which vaguely resembles the sausage in shape.

It encapsulates American culture - the elevation of European traditions and customs through commodification, downgrading of core components and mass industrial production for the purpose of capitalistic profiteering. It is the epitome of American culture. Better yet, the garnish provided with the hot dog even resembles natural pickle condiment commonly called "relish", yet is presented in an unnaturally, industrially modified neon-green hue, treated with unknown chemicals to achieve the color, which is considered to be desirable by Americans. This gives the American hot dog its flare and its unmistakably American identity.

You might argue Hamburgers resemble this. However, you can still make a Hamburger with meat that comes from acceptable sources which has not been pulverized into a liquid and reshaped into the desired shape. But you can't make a hot dog with a sausage of adequate quality because, once the mystery "meat" cylinder is replaced, the hot dog ceases to be a hot dog and reverts to its ancestral form, the Wurst. You can't serve an American hot dog without the brightly luminous relish without compromising its integrity.

For these reasons, the hot dog is the most American food there is. Period.
