Why are there so few female chef's currently awarded 3 Michelin Stars? I think that only 6 women currently hold this prestige, but I could be mistaken.

I always assume everyone thinks of women (especially grandmas and moms) when they think of great cooking. But why is our reality so different from our internalized impressions? Do we love their food just because we love those women?

This is surprising to me because such a large portion of American commercial advertising is geared to reinforce the notion of feminine proficiency in the kitchen (Aunt Jemima, Betty Crocker, Cholula, Marie Calender's, Celeste, etc. etc.)

So why do women not succeed in the upper echelons of the industry? Is it sexism or a lack of skill? You don't actually have to answer any of these questions, just discuss why it is that you think women are completely underrepresented at the highest levels of professional cooking...
