I found one of these disc-type sharpeners in one of my kitchen drawers. I thought it would be junk, but I tried it anyway just for the hell of it. I was shocked the thing actually worked, got my knives sharp enough to shave hair off my arm. I still prefer my stones, but these little things work great. I'd recommend one of these.

I have the Lansky version of the carbide/ceramic pull-through sharpener. While it seems to be capable of a similar level of sharpness, I haven't had entirely consistent results with it, and I haven't been able to sharpen the knife tip effectively.
