i want to make a homemade version of this delicious crap but i'm missing the mark. i made kecap manis with equal parts soy sauce and brown sugar but the one in the packet tastes more like caramel and very little like soy sauce, where mine still has a distinct soy sauce taste along with the sweetness. do i just need more sugar? a different kind of sugar? also is MSG a huge deal? never added it to food before. so far my version ends up tasting like pretty much every other generic asian stir fried noodle dish with soy sauce and sugar and not this glorious indonesian crack
