They are apparently trying to go the opposite way and show that they are actually similar to scotch whiskys and signal familiarity. Not sure which would be the most efficient marketing move, but playing the exotic card would be the most entertaining. Like that one japanese whisky that has a samurai helmet covering its bottleneck.
Funnily enough, that's what cheap indian whiskys do in the opposite direction.
They try to overplay their "britishness" despite being made in India and mostly just sold in India because they are not up to quality and sanitary standards for export into Europe or North America.
