Thinly sliced, cut in smaller pieces. I have toastie maker similar to pic related. I put them in it and then I turn it on. So it slowly warms up, moisture from the bread kinda helps with “cooking” the onions. They are always golden brown and the onions are done. I don’t think there’s any magic going on.
