>you still have to have evidence to say what the human diet (who? where?) has been for hundreds of years.
Maybe if you want to get into the specifics, but we can say with certainty that humans have been eating meat and by extension saturated fats since we left the tree tops. We can also say with certainty that there is no natural diet that could contain nearly as much PUFAs as the average westernern today consumes. And yes, there are even studies on modern day tribal people that confirm this. But I'm sick of this "muh science" nonsense. Diet is not that difficult of a thing to figure out when you get rid of the factories and processing plants.

>it's easier to just eat what you feel like.
Not when you end up with a plethora of chronic health conditions. The thing about our ancestors is that they were physically healthy (famines notwithstanding). They didn't die of cancer, obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

>and ironically we don't have a firm understanding of what ancient man (in any particular place) ate either.
We don't know the exact foods in the exact quantities, but we do know the basic food types that they ate, and more importantly, we know what they didn't eat.

That's precisely the point. They're industrial waste products and they have replaced real food in our diets. Now everyone is obese and has the beetus, and what do they do? They blame le evil animal fats.

If your overall diet is healthy, you wouldn't be eating factory made seed oils in the first place, save for some odd restaurant meals. The reason people focus on seed oils is because of the fact that the average person is unknowingly eating a ton of that crap on a daily basis, upwards to 15% of their calories on average, and in those quantities they are undoubtedly poison and contribute to all of the most common chronic diseases that modern society suffers from. The food industry has effectively removed real food from our diets and replaced it with an industrial waste products, all in the name of profits. Anyone who defends this or tries to downplay it is an idiot.

Even in smaller quantities they aren't healthy and may or may not be unhealthy, so you would always be better off replacing them with something healthier. So why would you risk it just to satisfy your taste buds, or just because you're too lazy to read the ingredients and cook for yourself?

Look around and observe the sickly people who make up our society. Do you want to be one of them? If so, ignore this post and continue consuming your factory "foods". Otherwise, you will need to be a bit of an autist about your diet and do what all those other fat and sickly people aren't doing - pay attention.
