I don't really care for the dragon. Honestly I don't enjoy dragons and fantasy. But 100%, people are much more likely to appreciate that.
The difference is, anyone can slap clay together and recreate the art on the left. But there are very few who could or could be bothered to recreate a tree dragon or whatever it is. Also, given a minute to think about it, I could honestly think of something much more deeper than someone sucking his own dick, which is what makes the art work so repulsive. It's like someone put that there as a silly little joke because they don't really give a shit about the course they are enrolled in. It's like something I would have done in art class in high school, as I didn't r ally give a shit about art, I'd just draw dicks in my art folder, and the fact that the person was doing this at uni probably means that all the art had to be finished and displayed to pass the unit. I had plenty of friends who did and arts degree for a year or two to get the hang of uni before they decided what they actually wanted to do with their life. In Australia it's a pretty common thing and even my mum tried to convince me to do an arts degree instead of having a year off. Not sure how that differentiates in the US. But yeah, I do agree with your argument about time - times spent does not equate to quality. But the way I see it, say you give two people 2 days to create a dress. One dress is perfectly seamed, fits nicely, stitching is of great quality whereas the other one has loose thread, there are fold lines in the dress but it still fits right. You could argue that the dress, that is poorly created, is better than the first because 'you don't need to have skill to be a seamstress.' But in reality, the first one is technically better. The rules can be bent, and that's what creates new fashion trends. But people will prefer to wear the dress that isn't...shit. Some trends change rules for the better whereas some are extremely retarded.
