I had a business trip to a flyover shit hole once and I refuse to drive so I found a hotel near downtown where I could walk to the place I was working, and took a cab from the airport which was more like a runway and some corrugated steel shelters, like a WW2 airstrip in the pacific. At night I went to this BBQ place that was supposedly amazing and famous so I expected to wait in line for hours, but there was no line, just a few unsurprisingly obese whites drinking cheap beer and struggling to breathe. Despite the weird accents they were able to understand me because I intentionally slowed my speech. The food was honestly not bad, better than your average flyover ruth's chris and olive garden, but I'm not sure I'd stand in line for it. And I was able to walk between the hotel and the restaurant without a local cop slowing down and glaring at me menacingly, which is more than I can say of some flyovers.
