Depends on the IPA, but generally they have more alcohol than the mainstream. And they have a much more hoppy (bitter) taste which means sipping at a bar instead of just drinking it down. Because the bitterness is more pronounced, many people think IPA stands up to strongly-flavored foods better as a meal-time beer.

Some of the IPA "double down" on the bitter experience by dry hopping. Normal hop usage is to brew it with the hops. Dry hopping is when they put some hops into the container AFTER brewing was done. The beer then leaches out more of the hops bitterness.

Oldfag here. If it's a problem it will always be a problem either evict them,move or get a portable small fridge for your room and a lock for your bedroom door.
